Eisner was so good you don’t need the main character to have an outstanding page. That period from late 46-48 is such a sweet spot on the Spirit when Eisner was fully engaged in the strip and you can see it here.

Eisner in his prime as a comic artist, the cinematic storytelling, the light-and-shadow effects, the wit and the warmth. Kudos to you for giving his assistant Grandinetti some honors too.
