Description

Years before Daredevil and the Black bat (in the pulps) Baynard Kendrick was writing mystery novels about a blind detective who was assisted by his two seeing eye dogs. Kendrick was the only sighted staff in a program for Blind Veterans so the stories are quite accurate about the lives of the blind. This is an illustration from the newspaper serialization of "Frankincense and Murder".

“He is blind but sees things that we miss……”
Captain Duncan Maclain is the detective in “Frankincense and Murder”. He is also blind aided by two German Shepherds, one a seeing eye dog the other a trained attack animal.
