DescriptionHere's something I got in a recent auction, a concept sketch by Milton Caniff for a Life Magazine cover, dated Aug. 18, 1950. Ever the newsman (and self-promoter), Caniff was pitching a cover to tie-in with America's growing involvement in the Korean Conflict and Steve's return to uniform and the new Steve Canyon Comic Book. It looks like the cover did not materialize. The pitch was for a cover photo and not a drawing, featuring Caniff in the background, and Princess Snowflower and Steve Canyon portrayed by Enid Ansley and Chandler Cowles, respectively. I've included an image of the pitch letter that accompanied the artwork.Social/Sharing |
