DescriptionOK, now this is a crazy cool find I am beyond thrilled by!! An original panel page from Locke & Key!!!I love Locke & Key. It sits atop my list of favorite comics of the last 15 years. Intricately plotted, written, and drawn, it showcases the best of what comics can do. A perfect match between writer and artist. Sadly though, the art is impossible to find. As the story goes, Gabriel Rodriguez gifted all the artwork to his wife, so very little escaped to the wild. Some of his covers made it out early, but interiors seemed a non-existent beast. But it turned out there was one book of interiors that did slip out (as part of a retailer incentive), the first chapter from Keys to the Kingdom, a fun little yarn called 'Sparrow' that was later nominated for an Eisner. There were a few incredibly cool things about this story, starting with the general plot, which sees Bode turn himself into a Sparrow and join up with a flock of other sparrows to save Tyler and Kinsey from a wolfed-up Dodge. But it moved next level thanks to the storytelling. First off, half the art is done in a Watterson-like style, jumping back and forth between Gabe's polished linework and a looser, almost brush-like feel. Second, they did one of the most unique layouts I've ever seen in comics. Each page has 4 panels running right down the middle of the page, while a fifth panel acts as a splash in the background. It creates a very unique type of storytelling where you see the splash on the left, then read the middle column, before concluding the splash on the right. Next level kinda storytelling! Oh, and check out how the panel borders on those middle panels mimic Dodge's state of mind. Fun stuff! I am beyond giddy:) EPILOGUE: In October 2019 I got Joe to sign it! Pretty darn cool:) Social/Sharing |

Oh, nice! A modern classic for sure. I've been on the lookout for a page myself for a while. Congrats!

Congrats. Might be one of the few times a page is out there. You fought me for it. Glad it found a good home.
