Description

Stan Lynde wrote and drew the Rick O'Shay strip from 1958 through 1977 when he left over ownership issues with the syndicate.

The strip had two phases - a contemporary setting with cartoonish people (1958 to 1969 +/-) and a second phase where it was set in 1869 and the characters and stories were more realistic.

Though I enjoyed both a lot, the second phase was the one I most remember.

Most of the Rick O'shay material has been reprinted over the years by Stan's Cottonwood publishing, Comics Review, and the The Menomonee Falls Gazette.

Sadly, most of the original art for both phases of the strip was lost in a fire in Stan's studio.

By date and art style, this is a first phase strip though the gag and the drawing style was shifting to more realistic characters. The backgrounds were always realistic.

The gag is pretty straight forward and could be used in either era.
