DescriptionAll praise to Don McGregor for having dreamed up the first multi-part saga of the Black Panther, the aptly-named "Panther's Rage"!...For a dozen issues, we were treated to an incredible adventure, running through the unbelievable lands of Wakanda, encountering myriads of outlandish characters and definitely larger-than-life villains. After all, Erik Killmonger made his first appearance here... Taking T'Challa out of the streets of New York and back into Wakanda, a region even more mind-blowing than the tech-driven country Stan Lee and Jack Kirby had originally conceived, was a masterstroke. Far removed from the usual settings of Superhero stories, the Black Panther finally became himself when coming back to his homeland and this story cemented his legend for good! Art-wise, the tale had already come up to a good start with Rich Buckler, then Gil Kane providing their rock-solid pencils, while Klaus Janson really became a force to be accounted with on inks. But it's really when Billy Graham took the helm with issue 12 that the whole thing went into overdrive... On top of this, for one issue only, P.Craig Russell provided the inks and the combination of those 2 giants resulted in a masterpiece of baroque and excess. I mean: look at this page! A ragged and torn Panther struggles through a barren, frozen landscape with fiery skies and icy sun combine to escalate tension and hostility to the point that, yes, even the Panther knows fear. Just look at his eyes on the last panel as he discovers... Well, you really should read that story! Wakanda forever! Social/Sharing |

Thatnks Aaron! I pulled back the book from the shelf myself. It's been a while and I can't wait to dive deep into that storyline!

Also brings back appreciation of Don McGregor.
Thanks Nils! Everyone (myself included) sadly tends to overlook the work of authors who, at the very least, sparked the initial creative light... Don McGregor did have a fair share of masterpeices that deserve praise!

A killer Graham page with multiple shots of the Panther in different size/scale AND some great storytelling along with it! This arc defines the character in many ways to this day and I was also lucky enough to pick up a Jungle Action Graham page myself this year - I look at it all the time, as I'm sure you do yours! Congrats!
