DescriptionThe Beatles' tremendous influence on pop culture is not limited to music but movies as well. Apart from the various movies starring the Beatles themselves, they've also inspired all kinds of movies from quasi-biopics like Backbeat to Julie Taymor's cinematic Across the Universe to director Danny Boyle's thought-provoking Yesterday and many more.But no Beatles-inspired movie is quite like 1978's infamous kinda/sorta rock opera Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, a movie-musical starring Peter Frampton, the Bee Gees, George Burns, and many more of the era's you-won't-believe-they're-in-this-movie actors and musicians. Equally infamously, Marvel Comics undertook a comic book adaptation of this movie as the seventh issue of the Marvel Comics Super Special series, with George Perez and Jim Mooney providing the art. Plagued with production delays (and with the movie itself being a flop,) the comic was never published in English, but French and Dutch language editions were released. Perez has called this project one of the nadirs of his career, but I like to think his high points more than make up for this. In any case, here's an interior page from the comic, an artifact to one of the most misguided media moments Beatlemania ever brought. Get back to where you once belonged, indeed... Social/Sharing |

I can appreciate this page as I appreciated the film on certain levels. Perez and Sgt. Pepper’s, what’s not to dig?!
