DescriptionI know there are many people in this community who won’t touch art with faded markers, and I don’t necessarily disagree with that opinion. But from a nostalgia standpoint, this was such a seminal book for me when I bought it in 1983. I was aware of Kane at the time though reprints or back issues of MTU and ASM, but this was the first book of his that I bought directly off the stands. I vaguely remember DC pushed this series pretty hard, and I was a big fan of the Atom, so I was pretty excited for it. I didn’t even mind his “everything has the same line weight” approach because he was such a master that, like Toth or Jaime Hernandez, every line he drew was essential. I still have a soft spot for his early, all marker work. Happy to score this one!Social/Sharing |

Such a great cover! The faded marker wouldn't have stopped me either.

Absolutely stupendous linework, and possibly his last great piece before getting sloppy with the markers throughout the next several years.

I agree absolutely 100% with you. There have been other SotA covers floating around with arguably better images, but to me there is a certain magic in this one, both in the image and execution. Thanks for your comment!

A tremendous example by Kane marking his return to one of his signature characters.
