DescriptionI've really slowed down in my commissioning of comic artists, but when I saw on Facebook that Toby was opening up his commission list, I swooped in. I've long enjoyed his expressive approach and was hoping he'd be up for a commission someday. We chatted about possible subjects and went back and forth a bit. Toby is a big fan of Caniff's work, as well as the early animated Popeye cartoons and ultimately he went for the latter choice. I'm glad he did! The line work is expressively wonderful and I truly dig Toby's use of Zip-a-tone shading tape, which he uses to both shade forms, but as an object itself, such as on the skull in the lower left. Such a tremendous talent.Social/Sharing |
