Description

Wally Wood was definitely one of the artists that was missing in my collection until now. Granted, I did manage to acquire a couple of pages he inked (fantastically, of course!) over Gil Kane's dynamite pencils.

But then came this great Dynamo twice-up page with all the stuff I needed on a Wood page. With a classic panel layout, there's some great action where the shadowy anonymous innumerable and silent figures pose a real threat to Dynamo whose portrait on the first panel makes him all the more human and strangely vulnerable. In fact, he begins this fight knowing that he will lose it! Another pure Wood trait...

And you even get a (very small) sample of Wood machinery in the form of Dynamo's belt! Well, maybe it's a little too far-fetched, here...

Some other artists have been tentatively named for their contribution on this page, but the hardcover collection of the complete Tower Comics run lists this story as being drawn by Wally Wood and Ralph Reese, so I'll stick with it until further notice. I'm pretty sure Wood did all the inking, so Ralph Reese may have helped with the pencils, but that's guesswork on my part...
