Description

Rowena’s original painting for “Retief of the CDT” (Ken Laumer, Timescape/Pocket Books, 1981) is one of the grails in my collection. Today I was able to reunite it with her final preliminary drawing for the piece! Thanks to Thomas for finally letting this one go. I love comparing this with final painting and some of the changes Rowena made during her process, including adding the satin cape and the feathery plume in his helmet and placing him on the meteor rather than in front of it. The prelim also includes a number of notes Rowena made in the margins.
