Description

John Buscema is one of my favourite artists. I’ve always admired his big, bold images and his dynamic storytelling. In particular, I love the work he did on the 1975 Marvel DC – MGM’s MARVELOUS WIZARD OF OZ. Buscema with the assistance of the Tribe did a superb job of translating the classic MGM film into a comic book.

I was lucky enough to have a nice page from this book in my collection. It was the scene where Dorothy, Toto, the Scarecrow, the Tinman, and the Cowardly Lion arrive at the gates of Oz. Recently, I let this great page go in a trade deal and as soon as I shipped the art to its new owner I felt an incredible sense of loss. Call it Trader’s remorse.

As a result, I immediately started to search for another page from this classic comic book. I was lucky enough to find an even better page offered for sale. It was the iconic scene where Dorothy and Toto depart from munchkin Land and set out for Oz on the Yellow Brick Road. It’s the “FOLLOW THE YELLOW BRICK ROAD PAGE. Rest assured – this one will be in my collection for a very long time.
