DescriptionGuido Crepax, La Marianna la va in campagna. China su cartone, cm 51x36.Guido Crepax was born in Milano on the 15th of July 1933. While he attends the Architecture school he debuts in the field of illustration and graphics by making vinyl covers, then advertising illustration (the Shell advertising will win the Palma D’Oro in 1957) and books covers. In May 1965 he debuts on the pages of “Linus” as comics’ author giving birth to “Philip Rembrandt”, alias “Neutron”, art critic and amateur detective, a character which is between the crime and sci-fi. But his greatest success is because of a bit player character which is his girlfriend “Valentina” (inspired by Louise Brooks, unforgettable “Lulu” in the “Pabst” movie) that will become the real main character of the series and in a short amount of time one of the most famous comic characters worldwide. Crepax is a very prolific author, selected for the group of authors represented by the agency “Quipos” owned by Marcelo Ravoni e Coleta Goria, in the 1970s he creates many other heroines: Belinda, Bianca, Anita. He also realizes sophisticated comic versions of some classics of the erotic narrative starting from “Histoire d'O” then followed by “Emmanuelle” and “Justine”. In 1977 he creates, still for “Editiemme”, one of the most mature and peculiar works: “Lanterna Magica”, a wordless volume, immediately published in other countries. In the same period, he takes part in the prestigious “Un Uomo un'avventura” owned by “Cepim” (Bonelli) and creates "L'uomo di Pskov" and "L'uomo di Harlem". By now he is put in the Olympus of the Italian comic world. He works mostly for the advertising but his comics, which has become rarer because of the crisis of the editorial Italian market, remain so important until the end. “Frankenstein” (Grifo, 2002) is his last work, with a very suffered creation. After being sick for a very long time his conditions aggravate all of a sudden and dies in Milano in the night between 30th and the 31st of July 2003. He was seventy years old. Social/Sharing |
