Description

Alex Raymond was solidly into the height of his vast artistic power at this point! The figure work here is simply stunning. From that gorgeous panel featuring Lil in the Jungle Jim topper strip, straight through to Fria's supple and well-lit form in the bottom tier, this is some high-octane Raymond art. It's matched by an equally exciting story as well, with Flash near death and a jealous love-triangle being all that separates him from the medical aid he so desperately needs. It's from the "Ice Kingdom of Mongo" story arc. It's worth noting that Flash Gordon was an obvious influence on George Lucas' Star Wars. You don't have to look beyond Fria's hair style and the fact they are on an Ice Planet to see some similarities with this strip!
