DescriptionGrowing up on Dutch translations of the Clone Saga & "Amazing Spider-Man" from the 90s when I was ten-ish in 2004-5, Mark Bagley had a huge influence on me. Combine that with the fact that he designed the iconic Spidey outfit for my first superhero Ben Reilly in those stories, and you know why I had to have something personal by him.During the summer I jumped on his commission list & instantly went with a Ben Reilly Spider-Man. I think I chose the right subject and you can see how Mark enjoyed doing it. There is so much incredible detail and shading in this dynamic piece. I had seen my Spidey before on a picture, but when I opened the package today, I saw a completely different, even better commission. Mark was the nicest throughout. I asked for a picture of him holding the piece, which he gladly did. It's so nice that he added some background, too - completely at his discretion. And the cherry on top? When I turned the piece around I noticed an inscription on the back, personally for me - from Mark Bagley himself! I'm going to keep that personal message to myself for a bit... I still to this day think this is my favorite Spider-Man costume - and Mark definitely appreciated that, considering the detail and effort that went into this piece - and the message on the back. Update on 9th of April, 2021: Today I received the inked version of this piece by Mark Morales. I had reached out in October and since February 2021, Mark found the time to start working on this piece. Throughout those weeks, he shared videos on his social media which garnered the attention of other artists like Todd Nauck, Aaron Lopresti, Adriano Di Benedetto, Roberto Poggi, Patrick Zircher, Darick Robertson, Sean Izaakse and others - all complimenting him and/or the piece. Those videos provided some great ASMR, by the way, with those pen scratches. Mark had warned me upfront that it might take him some time, since he had a lot of work for publishers and some pressing deadlines. In the end, I chose Mark (Morales) because of his amazing artistry. I know there were other, equally suitable options, but after seeing some of his inking and in-progress pictures, I know I made the right choice. And seeing those other amazing artists and inkers agree with me on social media, makes the experience all the nicer! Update on 12th of April 2021: the amazing Dennis Lehmann - also a big fan of this costume - digitally colored this piece and added the Sensational Spider-Man trade dress. Love how it all fits together and pops! Size is 11x17. Social/Sharing |
