Description

SHERLOCK TIME: Episode „the fetish“ from 1958

Hector G. Oesterheld - Alberto Breccia

As the hero's very name suggests, a clear allusion by the great Oesterheld to the creation of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle (the famous Sherlock Holmes).

Dark and mysterious. A incredible example of the wonderful „Sherlock Time“ stories. I personally love the kind of how the artist does draw all the shadows of each single panel.

Hope SHERLOCK TIME will be translated in english soon. It is a collection of 11 mysterious short stories with about 180 pages, that mix police intrigues and science fiction.

Excellent page with pure inks in wonderful condition on bright white paper in a nice format of 35 x 50 cm

------------------------

It seems, Sherlock Times was the turning point in the graphical expression of the artist, from classical comics into a more abstract and dark way. I personally love the kind of how Breccia does draw all the shadows of each single panel. This collection of Short stories got 180 pages in black & white and was edited in Argentina, Spain and Italy. It is the fascinating pre-Mort Cinder series of Hector G. Oesterheld and Alberto Breccia. That 2 masterminds what are responsible for Mort Cinder or L`Eternauta. Sherlock Time does really deserve a translation in english, german or french.

More to know about the book from the source : Cité Internationale de la Bande Dessinée et de l'Image: „Sherlock Time“ is a important part of Alberto Breccia's career, although this series has been ignored in Europe where it has been little translated (in Italy and Spain only). This is indeed the first collaboration between Breccia and Hector German Oesterheld, the great Argentinian screenwriter and publisher.

Started in 1958 in the magazine Hora Cero Extra, Sherlock Time features a retiree, Julio Luna, who became the owner of a house that he soon discovers by retaping it that the previous owners have disappeared under strange circumstances... The house is actually a trap that aliens use to capture inhabitants of the Earth. Rescued by a strange character who calls himself Sherlock Time, he accepts that the latter occupies one of the towers of his home. Then begin adventures for the two men that mix police intrigues and science fiction, as the hero's very name suggests, a clear allusion to the creation of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. There is also Holmes/Watson in the couple that form Time and Luna.

This classic-looking series is remarkable in that it distances itself from the usual canons of the adventure comics of the time. Oesterheld does not hesitate to insert silent sequences into his screenplays and Breccia, experiments with black and white more "lyric" than photographic. He thus takes the path of experiments that will give the already named masterpieces that are "Mort Cinder" and "The Eternaut" and adaptations of texts by H.P. Lovecraft, Octavio Paz and Edgar Poe.
