This 13" x 22.5" original oil painting on canvas by Spanish illustrator Enric Torres-Prat was used for the cover of the 1989 Simon & Schuster bestseller The Surprise Party, the second book in famed author R. L. Stine's Fear Street series.

The atmospheric scene shows Tony Colavito, the brooding flame of the story's protagonist, Meg Dalton, approaching the Halsey Manor House, an ominous stone mansion hidden deep within the dangerously desolate Fear Street woods. The lights are on for a surprise party to welcome back Ellen Majors, who moved away a year ago after the apparent suicide of her boyfriend, Evan Harper, in those same eerie backwoods, but she's brought along a sinister surprise of her own that will come out by the night's end.

A more twisted and terrifying predecessor to his later Goosebumps campfire tales, catered to an older teenage readership, Stine's Fear Street centers around the town of Shadyside and its mysterious happenings rumored to be caused by a centuries-old curse left by the Fear family. To date, the "Stephen King of children's literature" has sold more than 80 million copies of the young-adult novels worldwide.

Simon & Schuster tasked Enric with painting the front covers for the very first three Fear Street titles, as well as for many of The Nancy Drew Files at the time.

In addition to his prodigious output in the paperback market, which includes work for several other book publishers like Ace, Avon, Bantam, Berkley, Dell, Harlequin, Popular Library, Playboy Press, Signet, and Zebra, Enric is widely regarded for his alluring cover contributions to the Warren Publishing horror comic magazines of the 1970s, especially Vampirella.
