DescriptionX OF SWORDS, CHAPTER 11 -- A ritual. A parliament. A game begins.THE SWORDBEARERS OF ARAKKO A few weeks ago, I was swapping emails with Andrew at Cadence Comic Art about a couple of great pages by Mahmud Asrar which we had both picked up from X-Men #13 when I asked him if they would be selling Mahmud’s X of Swords Stasis pages. After a few more emails, I ended up buying all 12 pages! As you may know, Stasis is a split issue, with Pepe Larraz creating about two thirds of the comic book (all digitally) and Mahmud the rest, all traditionally, with Mahmud creating the artwork for the middle section of the book which is called “The Swordbearers of Arakko”. And there are so many great pages! My first ever commission was by Mahmud Asrar, an awesome (and much viewed) piece called "Watch Your Step" - check out my collection - and since then, I have picked up a few great interior pages, as well as his epic Powers of X #3 and House of X #3 connecting covers. So when I heard he was going to be one of main artists working on Marvel’s X of Swords crossover event, I really hoped he'd be working on one of the main books (in fact, he worked on several) and that I might pick up a page or two…! As you may be able to tell from my collection, I am also a fan of Pepe Larraz and have been lucky enough to pick up several covers. Along the way, I have also managed to pick up a number of his 1/1 Artist Proofs interior pages from House of X. They may not be the same as traditional, original art but it’s still great art, and it hasn’t stopped me from picking up digital work from others such as Russell Dauterman, David Baldeon and Viktor Bogdanovic as well. Even so, original art will always be that little bit more special for me (sorry, digital-only artists), so it’s great to have picked up The Swordbearers of Arakko pages, which are the only original interior art from the three X of Swords main books, Creation, Stasis and Destruction. Watch out for the rest of the pages which I will post over the next few days. For now though, thanks again Andrew and Paolo at Cadence Comic Art, and thank you Mahmud. This is quite simply a superb addition to my comic art collection, and of course a great addition to my X of Swords collection and my Gallery of X! Social/Sharing |
