Description

Jose Ladronn continues to be one of my favourite artists. Unfortunately, he does a lot of work digitally these days and his originals can be hard to find. When Jose agreed to do a pin up commission for me at special request, I jumped at the opportunity to ask for Mister Miracle with an Apokalips background.

Working with Jose was awesome, he kept me up to date all the way through and gave me all sort of information about how he works and the techniques he uses. I've included additional images of the original preliminary rough and the fully inked version, pre-coloring.

The art is 11x14. The black and white art lines were done with KOH-I-NOOR Rapidographics. The color was with Windsor & Newton watercolors and acrylic goauche.

As Jose is also a fan of Kirby, he took some additional time and care on this piece. In his words, he knew he "was making something special." The following are some of his thoughts as he was working on the piece:

It is very Kirbyesque.

It is very dynamic, energetic and epic. That is what I love of that style.

The detail in the background represents the place very well, an Apocolyps vision, and how harsh it is.

The energy crackles look really good as part of the composition, I placed them in strategic places.

The huge fire pit, the pipes, some structures and the deadly Parademons firing complement the design.

The image have metal, fire, energy, the only way to do it is using a combination of different media.

Some parts are drawing with color pencil to create a distance sensation.

Others parts with have black Ink, to make it powerful drawing.

The color mood will be set with warm Watercolors tones.

At the end I will use some Acrylics to enhance the light.
