DescriptionFirst Kiss 10 Complete StoryWhether Vinnie Colletta ever whacked anyone - or whether someone in his family ever did - will likely remain a mystery. Only the whacked ones know. (And they ain’t talkin’.) Although he is often maligned as an inker of Kirby, when Colletta took his time he could be quite good, and he was often especially good when drawing women. In his early career, Colletta penciled AND inked the occasional story, mostly for romance titles. Such is the case with this Charlton story from First Kiss #10, published in September, 1959. Ah, the fifties! There’s plenty of Bad Vinnie out there, but I think these pages demonstrate Good Vinnie. Thanks, Wally! Social/Sharing |

He also often got jobs and subcontracted pencilling (see my Giordano romance splash) which further confounds the whole questio nof what Vinnie did. My guess is given the variability of his inking - he maybe did that with inking as well. He had pubisher contracts and by brokering a lot to subcontracots could produce a lot of art often under his name but done with the help of others . In the field at that time quick turnover meant as much as skill.

When it came to inking romance pages Vince was definitely one of the very best.
