Description

BUD FISHER - Original daily comic strip for Mutt and Jeff (Bell Syndicate, 1928).

This early strip has a bit of history connected to it, in the fact that this was the first widely popular six-day-a-week panel strip. It wasn't the very first, but it was the one that people took to, appearing in 1,200 papers at the time. The original focus was Mutt's obsession with horse racing; in fact, the strip ran in the sports section in the early pre-comics page days.
Two Fisher signatures: the artist's trademark signature, plus a personalized inscription at the top border area. Ink over graphite on Bristol board. Very large image area, 30" x 11".

"Mutt & Jeff" è ritenuta la prima daily strip giornaliera, in realtà era stata preceduta da "A. Piker Clerk" di Clare Briggs, una strip anch'essa impostata sulle corse di cavalli e durata pochissime settimane e ad oggi quasi sconosciuta. La strip di Fisher ha il merito di essere la prima ad ottenere un grande successo e quindi a dare l'idea sulla funzionalità di questo genere di pubblicazioni che, in breve tempo, apparvero su tutti i maggiori quotidiani d'America e del mondo, ed è così che nacquero le "daily strip".
Bud Fisher è stato il primo a concepire l'importanza di gestire il suo personaggio in proprio, in questo modo, sfruttando la popolarità di Mutt & Jeff, divenne uno dei più ricchi fumettisti di inizio secolo.
Di grande formato con un area dell'immagine di 73 x 21 cm, questi originali sono a dir poco meravigliosi, lo stesso vale per testi e disegni rimasti invariati nel tempo ma sempre di ottimo gradimento. Forse quelli di M&J, per qualità e importanza storica, sono tra gli originali ancora oggi molto sottovalutati, di conseguenza si trovano a prezzi molto abbordabili.
In Italia Mutt & Jeff hanno avuto la loro prima apparizione negli anni '30 sul giornale RIN TIN TIN e sul settimanale JUMBO, entrambi della S.A.E.V., il nome originale fu modificato in Pinco & Pallino.

Già fatto, anche se a causa della dimensione non è appesa ma poggiata su una mensola!!
