DescriptionJack Higgins was a longtime cartoonist for the Chicago Sun-Times, winning the Pulitzer Prize for editorial cartooning in 1989. This wonderful cartoon features Ed Vrdolyak, who had been the Chairman of the Cook County Democratic Committee. Vrdolyak long opposed Harold Washington, but as Washington rose in power, Vrdolyak's power waned, and he eventually left the Democratic Party in September 1987, joining the Republication party. Higgins' cartoon riffs on Harold Gray's Little Orphan Annie, with Vrdolyak wearing an Annie wig, knocking on the Republicans' door. Sandy doesn't seem to happy in the background.
