Description1st of my Joe Madureira artwork, ideally not the last as I really enjoy his stylings and contribution to the history of X-Men.This page holds a lot of great little pieces of history for me. It’s a page from Joe’s first book on his fairly long run of Uncanny X-Men, featuring the Phalanx in their first full appearance. His stylings are superb as he really knows how to capture characters and their feelings so well on the page. His manga-like expressive character art explodes on the page showing the urgency from Storm as a man beats the Phalanx with a baseball bat, to his ultimate demise. She is rendered so beautifully with this pending action beat of the Phalanx about to explode back into life and take recourse. I love the reactions on the surrounding people, but Storm, even with all this activity, stands out amongst the crowd, that is huge talent to do on a page like this. The Phalanx was the first real X-Men crossover saga for me when I was finally hooked in as a full-time reader and collector. This was what ultimately introduced me to a variety of the X-books that were involved in the crossover (Excalibur mainly and reinforcing my connection to X-Factor and X-Men). Nice to bring something with so many great memories home and grabbing little pieces of X history into my collection. Social/Sharing |

Some of the x-overs got a bit muddled, but the Phalanx one I enjoyed. Great emotive storytelling with Storm here from Mad.

Big congrats, James! A page from Joe Mad's first X-Men issue?! No easy get, I imagine! And it's a great example. Packed full of art and dialogue highlighted by that GORGEOUS shot of Ororo. Indicative of his work on the book and a sampling of the many gorgeous X images to come!

Holy cow! Love this piece. The Phalanx Covenant storyline is what got me hooked into comics. The danger and mystery drew me in as a kid, and Joe Mad was firing on all cylinders.
