Description

It's tough to find Manga art out there but especially from something as revolutionary as Otomo's seminal work. Got lucky enough to pick this one up from Felix Lu's recent drop of Akira art, more than 600 requests for 100 pages.

Akira creator Katsuhiro Otomo picked colorist Steve Oliff to do the color work when this cyberpunk saga was introduced to an American comic-book audience in 1988.

Otomo's studio supplied heavy 10"X14" print outs of his original black-and-white art for Steve to color. Initially working side by side with Otomo until the right color scheme was developed, Steve hand colored these pages using some combination of airbrush, felt pens, color pencil, gouache and cel animation paint.

I don't collect color guides but for Akira I made an exception as these pages are true works of art.
