DescriptionA Christmas gift to my partner. We believe this is a rendering of the Thief from the first Final Fantasy, created by it’s master designer Yoshitaka Amano. We got a lot of paperwork authenticating it as an original art piece from Yoshitaka, but all the hand written descriptions of what this piece is called and it’s history is in another language we haven’t translated yet. We will be unraveling that mystery soon, to atleast find out this piece’s true name. FANtastic to have an Amano piece in our collection to live amongst the many little pieces of X-Men history. We both grew up playing FINAL FANTASY and to have something representative of this time from our youth is ideal, since Amano had his hands in designing some of the most epic creatures, characters and environments from these Fantasy worlds. This particular piece really looks like the Thief from first Final Fantasy, of course he’s much more detailed and a lot less short, round and pixelated. I really enjoy seeing Amano’s style and paint rendering close up; really analyzing his great attention to details, action pose and quirky blonde characterization of what a thief needs to be in the FF world. Amano is a rock star! His every SDCC appearance is an event in itself!

The Thief artifact armour in Final Fantasy XI looks really close to this and artifact sets were meant to resemble very classic FF aesthetics. The Rogue class from FFXIV definitely took some inspiration from FFXI and this as well. Really cool seeing a piece of classic Amano Final Fantasy stuff on here!
