DescriptionThanks to Mark Levy and Comic Art LIVE last weekend for the opportunity to pick this page up. It's got Misty Knight and Colleen Wing on the first panel and Luke Cage with Harmony Young in the lower panels. I got this so I can get muttonchops Luke Cage as well as an example of Mignola inks from the early 80's. His very first year at Marvel, 1983. Chan's own inking style through the years can overwhelm an image, but this looks like he left meat on the bones for Mignola's inks to work on to see what the kid can do.Social/Sharing |

Cool looking talking heads page. You're right, I never would've guessed this was pencilled by Ernie Chan.

Luke never had far to move. On way out door he clicked his mutton chops together 3 times and repeated there is no place like home.

A really nice introspective moment for a very classic looking Luke Cage. Really dig the inks on this one.

Not sure what this page makes me want more - mutton chops, chain belt or tiara. All good options.

"Muttonchops Luke Cage", I never knew that was a thing! I really love that you can clearly see in the inking the hints of the style Mignola would continue to develop by the mid 80's and employ beautifully on his Incredible Hulk covers.

Christmas, those are some sweet muttonchops! That really is some light pencil work for Chan. Even at the beginning, they knew to leave some meat for Mignola inks. You can see his style emerging on the Power Man inks, imo. Cool score. Congrats!

Just for anyone interested, you can find Power Man 95 pages on CAF that is all Chan for comparison. Chan could do it all himself and the pages looked like they could be published as-is in a black and white magazine. No better and no worse, unless there's some story of beef, this page just shows that Chan was gracious enough to set up the tee for young Mignola.

I've never been cool enough to pull off mutton chops. Or roller skates for that matter.

Wonderful page and I believe that Mike is a finisher on this one, not only the inker.
