Description

This is the original pencil model drawing of Doctor Octopus by animator Russ Heath who was the primary character designer for the entirety of the Sunbow/Marvel series of cartoons. This design of Doc Ock was used to create models for the Spider-man 1981 series, Amazing Friends and The Incredible Hulk cartoons which animators would use as guides while creating the cels and drawings.

This model took influence from John Romita's panel from his Amazing Spider-man Issue #89 of which John was also a creative consultant on the Spidey cartoons and credited.

Heath's drawing is clean and communicates with clarity on Doc Ock's look and personality. Carefully made in scale that could also be used as guide for toys manufacturers.

Beautiful presentation, not only in Russ' elegant, Romita-influenced design, but in your posting of the piece with the cartoon excerpts. Looks fantastic! A true piece of history for those of us who set aside a chunk of our weekends "back in the day" to make sure we didn't miss an eipsode. Congrats on this cool pick up!
