Description

Happy Fourth of July, fellow Comic Art Fans! Grateful to finally own another Captain America piece that stunned me upon its publication. I believe that Steve McNiven has a wonderfully unique take on Cap which was perfect for Civil War with Mark Millar (love his dynamic and impactful action scenes of Cap in that event book) and for Ed Brubaker's second run to follow Steve Epting, Mike Perkins and company. I wasn't impressed with the first issue's cover -- but this one, I thought it has a timeless iconic quality with Cap throwing his shield while leaping to one side and I swore I had to have one day!

Awesome Cap by a master craftsman. I had this issue and always thought Mcniven drew one of the best Caps of anyone.

First Cap of the day on July 4th! What an impact this one made! The new comic had a blistering hot debut after Captain America The First Avenger came out that year and the issue had a photo cover which dominated sales of issue 1. This would probably be the drawn cover most people would mistake as issue 1.

I also thought this would make a great issue 1 cover! And I almost forgot about the fact that First Avenger came out the same year. =)

HUGE congrats! Definitely one of McNiven's best Cap images, and that's saying something. I asked him at a con what's his favorite character to draw and he told me if he had to nail it down to one, Cap. And it definitely shows in pieces like this! Dynamic pose and shield action, and the pencil rendering is next level!

Thanks, K! Always appreciate your insight and passion for the hobby! And thanks for confirming what I've always thought, that McNiven loved illustrating Cap because of the attention to detail and I think this piece is a prime example of that, which is probably why I desired it in the first place.
