DescriptionGerber wrote three episodes of "Mister T" an animated series in 1983, "Secret of the Spectral Sister" was his first.I'm a fan of Howard the Duck so naturally I wanted to know more about its creator, and learned Gerber worked beyond the pages of comics. I had seen this piece many times as my searches were often set 'prices low to high' and this being five bucks was at the top of the list. I had bought other "Mister T" production model cels (for their aesthetics) and over looked this one. After many nights battling my own Doctor Bong I put two and two together--which was this cel and (select)pictures of Gerber, and resolved that this was him. So with held breath I bought it along with other model cels from the episode. The episode's IMDB page lists Jack Kirby and Doug Wildey as character developers within the animation department, with models credited to Ken Boyer and Patrick A. Ventura. The former are known for their work in the comic world, while the latter are in animation (and younger). Sure, superficially the cel is a guy in glasses with a strong chin. Abstractly, physically and emotionally :(financially;) it could be Gerber, but a google image search of Patrick A. Ventura you'll see he's also a guy who wears glasses and's blessed with a strong chin. Could this be one of those nebulous coincidences to never be validated, like hemp's 1937 prohibition before the war contracts of ww2 were drafted? Via email, I posed my cel conundrum to a comic art dealer who I've bought from and after my payment cleared he said "yeah". But I was a customer, right? So my subjectivity led me to this: https://www.dailymotion.com/video/x16516j An interview between Hanna-Barbera's retired superhero Space Ghost and animator Patrick A. Ventura featured on Adult Swim's "Space Ghost Coast to Coast". Watch it if you like, though I can save you time. At 6min45 (within the context of Ventura's short "The Dangerous Duck Brothers" featured in "Random! Cartoons", Space Ghost asks Ventura- "What is it with you and talking ducks?" BINGO, case closed. That's all I needed to know. !,000,000 dollars or best entertaining offer. Social/Sharing |
