got into a rafael albuquerque groove when i started reading 'american vampire' from vol 1 to the present. really like his strong poses, narrative storytelling and brushy line work. maybe it's just me, but there's a sort of 'neal adams' vibe in his art. of all the art i've collected, i probably have the most pieces by him. and it probably didn't hurt that i took advantage of cadence comic arts year end sales (bless them :)

when AV 'second cycle' began, albuquerque started adding in ink washes to his art and that just added a new layer of depth, atmosphere and mood to his pieces. all good attributes to enhance already fine art.

this is the third of 3 consecutive pages i picked up. love the quiet storytelling.

in the second panel, i love how there's a lot of ink and line work except for the area where the two hands are coming together. the BG is just stark white so we focus in on those hands. in the next panel, the flying demons are solid white against a very black backdrop and in the last panel, the rain is coming down at such an angle as to point directly at our main character.
