Description

A page from the final issue of the second volume of P. Craig Russell's graphic adaptation of Neil Gaiman's Norse Mythology. This is from the second story in the issue, "The Story of Gerd and Frey." Sandy Jarrell provided art for the story over Russell's layouts. I picked this page specifically for the bottom left panel featuring the Valkyrie shepherding fallen warriors from the battlefield to Valhalla. Sandy pointed out that the designs for the panel were based on Arthur Rackham's iconic illustrations from The Rheingold & the Valkyrie.

Another very cool feature of the page is that it's hand lettered, which is a rarity for original art produced these days. The pages actually came to Jarrell having already been lettered by Galen Showman prior to his starting the finishes and inks.
