Description"He's rude for a clone." - Anakin SkywalkerBefore there was an Ahsoka, before there was a Rex, and before there was a succesful "Star Wars: the Clone Wars" TV-series; there was Dark Horse. And Alpha-17. In the early days of the prequel trilogy in 2003, we could count on Dark Horse Comics to tell us stories of that fabled and mythical Clone Wars saga. Picking up right where "Attack of the Clones" ended, we got the "Star Wars: Republic" comic showing fans adventures of Anakin & Obi-Wan in a galaxy at war. As luck would have it, this comic was brand new and freshly translated to Dutch, so eight year old me could admire those pretty pictures and stories. The stand-out character for me was Advanced Recon Clone Trooper Alpha-17, the "rough around the edges" clone badass - with a lot of pockets & big guns (I did grew up with 90s comics). A couple of months ago, I had sent an e-mail to arist Brian Ching, talking about my fond memories of his work on "Republic" and especially the Jabiim arc, in which Alpha takes a center role. But more on that in tomorrow's post... Brian was kind enough to do this awesome "propaganda" style commission for me, highlighting both the character, as well as that Jabiim story I love. And he definitely included some background in this piece! Size is 11x17. Social/Sharing |

It's an epic feel that Ching brought onto this art! Full of glorious and iconic imagery. The bombastic presentation has action and graphic design elements to create a balance of space.

And at that, he was extremely nice & easy to commission from!

If Image had done a 90s SW comic, this clearly would have been in the cover realm. Fantastic piece!
