DescriptionPan's-labyrinth (2006)-Pale-man-face-previous-concept-art-02 Pan's Labyrinth is a 2006 Spanish-Mexican dark fantasy film written and directed by Mexican filmmaker Guillermo del Toro. It was produced and distributed internationally by Esperanto Filmoj and Warner Bros. The story takes place in Spain in May–June 1944, five years after the Spanish Civil War, during the early Francoist period. The narrative intertwines this real world with a mythical world centered on an overgrown abandoned labyrinth and a mysterious faun creature, with whom the main character, Ofelia, interacts. Ofelia's stepfather, the Falangist Captain Vidal, hunts the Spanish Maquis who fight against the Francoist regime in the region, while Ofelia's pregnant mother Carmen grows increasingly ill. Ofelia meets several strange and magical creatures who become central to her story, leading her through the trials of the old labyrinth garden. The film employs make-up, animatronics, and CGI effects to bring life to its creatures. Drawn by famed Spanish artist Sergio Sandoval. Sergio made his debut in the early 1990s drawing comic-books and covers for Comics Forum (Spain). Nowadays, he combines his work in comics with that of conceptual artist in the film world. He has collaborated with Guillermo del Toro on several major films: The Devil’s Backbone, Hellboy, Hellboy II: Golden Army and Pan’s Labyrinth. He has also worked for top-level international publishers on both sides of the Atlantic: Planeta DeAgostini (Thännhauser limited series), DC Comics (Deus Ex limited series, Superman: DCUO Legends, Batman: Legends of The Dark Knight digital, Uncharted limited series, Arrow digital and others), Random House Mondadori (Ranko Kameran) and Madefire. That's a great aesthetic of the wooded creature. It seems natural and familiar enough to make it twisted.
