Description

I really have appreciation for those artists (like Mr. McNiven) who painstakingly draw out each scale of Cap's "scale-mail" shirt. Of course the focus of this DPS is the classic Cap tossing shield image (you can hear the MCU intro music now) but some nice panels of Cap using the shield and then the post shield throw aftermath.

Although, he's clearly holding the shield in his right arm and using it but then when he throws it, it looks like it's coming off his left arm? And then the shield is turned the other way? So then off-panel, he would have transferred the shield to his left hand without turning it and then threw it that way? ... someone tell me if i am over-thinking this.

Great DPS! I don't think you are overthinking this, just appreciating the detail. Perhaps this can be explained as being off-panel. Regardless, I'm a sucker for seeing Cap's shield fly and ricochet, so kudos on your pickup!

Great page! Mcniven does no wrong and his interpretation of Cap is top notch! Thanks for sharing

McNiven is a modern master and this is an incredible DPS. Bravo!

McNiven for the win. Love his Cap all the way. Sometimes I think his Cap is stuck in the shadow of his Wolverine art. Congrats on such a double splasher!

You're right about the shield, but there is a Neal Adams variant cover to this issue that has this same shield throw.  Besides, it's turned that way to be visually appealing on this dps that was launched for the purpose to bring in MCU fans as The First Avenger was coming out.  It was actually timed and pulled off correctly with a photo cover in the mix.

Spectacular!  Cap's shield coming at you is a cool 3-D effect!

McNiven and Morales are a top 10 team for me. They bring out the absolute best in each other's style. This DPS really shows that off to wonderful effect.

Thanks for sharing.

You are overthinking this. If you want something to think about, ask yourself why the villains never just blow Caps legs off when hes running at them with the shield in front of his torso and head. Fight over. I have read hundreds of Cap issues but being ambidextrous is not as bad to swallow as the leg problem. The art is great by the way.

Congratulations on such a great piece! =) I'm certain Cap is ambidextrous, but here he holds the shield with his right arm to block gunfire and then uses his left arm to remove it from his right and to then to throw it to his targets. Seems to make sense to me.=)

Sharp inks; a perfect example of that period in comic art!

This is spectacular and yes, I hear the theme music! As for the shield, call it creative license. McNiven is a master!

Man, a perfect Cap AND McNiven example!  Love these kinds of pieces - a DPS with a killer splashy shot of our hero sandwiched by some great storytelling panels!  Cannot beat OA with Cap using his trusty shield.  Congrats!
