Description

I've been wanting to add a Jamie Hewlett Fireball page to my collection for a while and was excited when I saw this page available. I first learned about Fireball, which ran in Deadline Magazine, through the Cartoonist Kayfabe YouTube channel. It's Jamie's take on a Hannah Barbara Wacky Races style adventure. The work has unfortunately never been collected but it's a great example of everything he does so well.

Jamie is primarily known for his work on Tank Girl and Gorillaz, but I feel he really lets loose in Fireball. This page has paste ups, great inking and mixed media coloring. It's great to analyze in person. His graphic design skills are on full display in Fireball and this page.

This page is 12"x18" on Bristol board. I unfortunately had to cut off the right edge in the scan because of the size. I'd love to see someone collect the entire Fireball run (not very long) in a hardcover edition sometime.

Picture perfect scene right out of a Road Runner cartoon! The 2D flat look and impressionist sun is inspired artistry.
