Description

The original art for the first Pogo book, a foundational text of my childhood.

I described one of my other pieces as "the splurge of a lifetime." I guess life can contain more than one.

Congratulations! That is a wonderful cover that captures the essence of early Pogo.

Pogo's humor was tightly tied to the time it was created, and as such does not get the recognition today it deserves. But humor aside what a cartoon talen Walt Kelly was. Congrats.

That is extremely true, and I've often regretted that Kelly spent so much time on ephemeral politics -- but that was of a piece with his self-perception as a "newspaper man," which he dearly wanted to be. Still the greatest American cartoonist in my book.
