DescriptionAfter having been on a hot streak of shut-outs during Felix's fantastic art drop events, I hit the jackpot when he posted Sanford's beautiful pages from the 2022 'Justice League' Annual #1.As well as showcasing Sanford’s impressive ability to infuse his work with insane amounts of energy and drama, this piece also answers the age-old question of why Hawkgirl’s mace is said to be made of “Nth metal”: When someone gets hit this hard, they -obviously- go “NNNTH!” It’s awash with detail, whether you’re looking for characters (basically everyone who plays a part in the story is on here somewhere), architecture (look at the beautifully rendered skyline in the background - and especially the buildings behind The Flash!), or sheer artistic flex (like the spatter, Krackle, white paint, and charm dripping off this thing... or the “in-camera” effect of Hawkgirl’s blow… or the texture given to Hawkgirl’s feathers!)…. Just an astonishing all-around display of throwing ideas at a board and seeing what sticks. Impressively, it all does here. And, hey! I know it’s not Bitter Root, but there’s even (sort of) a Jinoo here! :) I’m so excited to share this that I almost can’t see straight - obviously, Hawkgirl’s whammy has me reeling here, too. “NNNTH!” MANY sincere thanks to Felix (truly, Felix - thank you) and to Sanford for allowing me to add this filling-rattler to the collection. NNNTH indeed, Hawkgirl "in her element" delivering sweet justice! To borrow from a Marvel X-cousin, oh my stars and garters!! Because stars are about the only thing left to see for the recipient of this pounding. Crazy lines, vivid without even needing color. GOOD eye as always my man!

That's one heckuva Hawkgirl smashing across the top. Greene has proven he can do superhero action with the best of them.

Sanford Greene is art drop I had planned
And now I'm not so sure just where I stand
It was a double page spread dove
But now Felix's replying to me
Greene's the only art I can think of
It's modern action art technique
Justice League
Is just Nth metal face time
Artwork score, what I feel
Is it double page find
Sanford Greene you make me believe
That's your Justice League

Absolutely fantastic! Most of the time I find splashes like these a bit too cluttered, but this one reads beautifully and the figures are uber dynamic. Congrats!

I have been following Sanford's art since his Lead Heavy studio days (remember that one?) and while I must say I preferred when his line was more open, he is still a must buy for me, case in point that fun annual.
Super impressive dps.

You know, until I actually clicked on the thumbnail, I didn't even notice there were any other superhero guest stars on this DPS. That's not a knock on Greene of course, rather a compliment to show that even with all those guest starring heroes, he clearly understood that the emphasis still has to be on pulling the reader's eyes towards the Hawkgirl action up top, which is exactly what I was focused on and which is brilliantly executed. In fact, it's so nice that even now that I've seen the enlarged scan and am aware of all the guest stars across the bottom tier of panels, all I really care about is that wondrous Hawkgirl image up top, due to the sheer energy that explodes off from it!

Gorgeous art, and I met Sanford at Heros this past weekend and he couldn't have been a nicer guy! Congrats!

I love it, man! Absolutely some of my favorite pieces - a DPS with a splash AND some panel to panel storytelling! Killer splash at top, with HG comin right atcha! Sanford's got so much energy in his stuff - it applies to the splash, clearly, but also in the flow of the panels at the the bottom. And the sublte spatter throughout works to great effect! Congrats!
