DescriptionREEL PEOPLEThis is my first Excalibur page from the main original series. Featured is Jamie Braddock, brother to Betsy (Psylocke/current Captain Britain) and Brian (former Captain Britain), an all powerful reality changing slightly insane mutant. The creative team on Excalibur for this issue is top notch and the art showcases Jamie and the power he wields. Here we see that he has brought back to life his childhood nanny, Emma, since after his return home he learned of her passing. He has also changed the VIXEN (crime lord) to a cute little fox. It also features Nigel who really has a David Bowie appeal to him in his androgyny. BWS pencil art, mixed with Sienkiewicz detailed crazy inks on a story by Claremont is absolute gold for art and story combo from the very early 90’s. Jamie Braddock, being the crazy brother to my favorite character, Psylocke/Betsy Braddock, is so exquisitely showcased featuring his immense power, completely insane and destructive yet still childlike. The art for me really captures this all well in this single page. This story features the dimension hopping Excalibur team ultimately returning. A really unique time in the lives of the X people created by some of the best of this era. Social/Sharing |

The first thing I did after seeing this page was to go online and revisit the entire issue. A true clash of titans whose styles could not be any more different. And what's even more interesting is the fact that, when it comes to collaborating, each wants to be the Alpha artist. So it was fun going through the entire book and seeing pages where BWS would dominate and pages where Sienkiewicz would come through more. But ultimately, it's a win/win for any collector lucky enough to score a page from this very rare and very special collaboration.

Not all the greats compliment each other, but the combo of Smith and Sienkiewicz really shines here. And Jamie was always a fun character in that universe. Congrats!

If I had looked at this page without knowing which artists worked on it, I think I would have been scratching my head as to who drew it. BWS and Sienkiewicz combined to create something that looks like neither of them and both of them, if that makes any sense. Very cool page!

Nice rare combination of artists! You can tell the anatomy and faces on this page looks BWS, with Sienkiewicz's inks trying to find places to break down and maybe even ignore it to go freelance.

The figure work is so very clearly Windsor-Smith, while the inking is so indelibly Sienkiewicz. A wonderful page!

Congrats on your first BWS, man - not an easy get! I'll "get" there myself at some point :) AND you got the Sin-kev-itch assist! A dynamic duo if I've seen one. And you can clearly see both in that 3rd panel head shot!
