DescriptionAHHHH The Chuck Austen era of Uncanny X-men.. not the finest moment in history, but I said I was getting examples from all the artists on the main X-men titles and Sean Phillips is on that list... To my surprise, these pages are actually very pretty in hand. Much nicer then the printed version, Sean's work is very sleek and moody and a lot of that got lost in the coloring.. Very happy this project brought these pages to me! OHHH and of course I could not dip into this era without Stacey X! lolSocial/Sharing |

The Austen run was something of a train wreck, but I have to admit it was way more interesting than what came right before it. And the art? With talents like Garney, Larroca and Phillips working on the book, there was a lot to like (although let's agree to pretend that "The Draco" never existed). Great pickup here!

Chuck Austen seems to have received a lot of flack for his X-Men run, but it might be a tad unfair, as he was suddenly thrust into it, hard and fast, after the previous writer left. Many readers hoped he wood leave and go back to writing humour Strips, but ultimately I think he deserves credit for sticking it in and blowing his load on this run.

Can't go wrong with Chuck Austen. The story moves along with the strong Sean Phillips uses of long shadows and angles to oblong faces. It's a lifelong dream for many to own an X-Men page among the best periods in their long history. It features Angel with other X-Men tagging along in this page where you can hear the animated series theme song.

Stacey X was a fun character. Great seeing pages from all the eras.

Gorgeous X-Men page! Love Phillips' work here! The thick, rich blacks give it such a mysterious and moody atmosphere!
