Description

This is a sample page that Liefeld used to get hired by DC to work on Hawk and Dove. I like the backgrounds on this page. Dove's feathered hair in the 2nd panel spot on for the 1980's. Although DC opted to keep it in a ponytail.

The last panel is very interesting. It appears that it is a very early drawing of Kestrel. His cowl looks just about how Liefeld drew it in the series. His claws are drawn like Wolverine�s. At some point, a decision was made to go in another direction. I�d bet there is an interesting story on what Liefeld starts with here on this page and how they ended up being drawn the way he did them in the printed comic. I wish he�d share it!

Great sample page. I really enjoyed this mini-series when it was coming out and it was obvious that Liefeld was a real up and comer back then!

You can tell it was a tryout with hungry artists putting extra effort into the backgrounds and bricks! You can see the Liefeld traits all over this with big muscles, big hair, and dramatic emotions in the faces.

Liefeld's work on that series is probably his best artistic job in comics IMHO, when EVERYONE was excitingly paying attention to him. Nice one.

Very interesting to see this page. For me this shows much more Liefeld than the actual mini series did. I still think that DCs Liefeld/Kesel team up on this great mini series was a perfect match.
