Description

This page is special in so many ways to me. My schooldays were to say the least brutal. There was constant bullying and isolation. One day, a kid called Kieran felt sorry for me after a beating and pulled this issue out his school satchel. I opened it to this page and I was magically whisked away to a better brighter future for a few moments. Spolier. I even imitated Shadow Lass' escape method by pulling my sweater over my head to see how dark it could get. Legion has brought such joy into my life, it has given me the gift of teammates like Miki and Dave. I am so blessed. Enjoy

Aidan, love your sharing. Each of us has heroes that they identify most with for very personal reasons and your story is quite moving. Although I consider myself an Avengers guy, Legion was a love too, starting all the way back with Jim Shooter, almost redefining DC with relatable characters. Great page showing Karate Kid's skill and perserverance.

Thank you Andrew. The "Firsts" in comics are emotional. The first comic I actually bought was Avengers 26 not Legion and I am bound and determined to find 1 or 2 Don Heck art pages from that issue that I can frame with my original tattered copy proudly in the middle . It  helps bring things full circle on a personal & emotional level.Comics literally tell our personal stories as much as the protaginist . Like Karate Kid we all have had to face challenges and rise to the occassion. And pages like this reminds us of how far we have come in life....

Such a great page!  This sort of reminds me of that classic Ditko Spidey sequence where he has to muster his last ounce of strength to lift tons of rubble off his body.  If I'm not confused, I believe this is also the first apperance of Shady!

You are absolutely right. She wasn't even a Legionnaire at this point

A truly outstanding Legion page, both in terms of the art and what it means to you. Thanks for sharing it with us. Long live the Legion (and your love for it)!

Love that page and the entire story. My favorite LSH stories are the ones where a small group takes on a massive challenge. Jim was good at those.

I was never really bullied, but one of my regrets was not standing up for a kid who was.

Sorry to hear that you had such a rough time in school! Love this page! Great Karate Kid moment from Swan!

This is a great Karate Kid moment, I knew you would love it. As for the horror of school days, I learnt to turn stumbling blocks into stepping stones and SUCCESS is the best revenge. All ends well

Perfect metaphor on the page where tears turn to an escape.  This is the kind of enduring underdog spirit in titles that resonated most with fans.

So sorry to hear about the bullying, Aidan, but I'm glad to hear comics helped you get through those troubling times. A wonderful page and even better that you have such a tight childhood connection to it!

Yes, this is the real stuff. From a gentler era, albeit not free from bullies or fear either, when heroes were actually heroic and inspiring. Living well and thriving is the best revenge.

I remember the day my dad died, I went to my room and turned on my alarm clock radio and "Another One Bites the Dust" was playing. It was years before I could listen to that song again. Like a song on the radio, it is interesting how some comic books and their associated pages of art can evoke memories, good and bad. As for the art, there's nothing bad about it. It is perhaps the best Swan page in your incredible collection.
