Description

As a kid I thought this strip with Howland Owl playing psychoanalyst was one of the funniest of the early Pogo strips in the compilation book Ten Ever-Lovin Blue-Eyed Years with Pogo. It's a great combination of Walt's wordplay, a satire of psychoanalysis, and whimsical drawing.

It looks like the letterer found it a challenge to fit all the dialog into the strip--the lower marginal note reads "Arnie-The spacing of lines is off here, please put them in right place & you'll find more room." The correct line spacing was indicated with pin holes in the art on the left and right sides.

Thanks to Jim W. for allowing this to leave his collection as part of an art swap. He is very pleasant to deal with!
