DescriptionAnother interesting find at the Windy City Pulp and Paper Convention. I spotted this Fabian art not really knowing what it was, and bought it anyway figuring I would research it later. On the back was written the word Imperium. So I did a Google search for Stephen Fabian and the word Imperium and found out that this is the cover art for the board game Imperium which was released in 1977. Looks to me like there is some Star Wars influence here as the ship in the lower left sure resembles a Star Destroyer! And of course the movie came out in May 1977 if memory serves. Anyway, just a really cool find!Social/Sharing |

Wonderful era as Star Wars set in motion for a more optimistic world view showing the power of imagination from the sci-fi genre. It was something America needed and the world needed. The momentum carried over everywhere as action, adventure, and a brighter future was shown to be possible. This is a wonderful example of the times as Fabian paints an operatic array of lights against the darkness of space. The nebulous backgrounds are also exquisitely painted to make the audience buy into the fantasy.
