Description

Gambit #3 issued on April 15, 1999 and featured likenesses of the Wachowskis (The Matrix trilogy directors) as the Mengo Brothers, thugs for hire working for The Pig. Steve Skroce who penciled the book had worked for the Wachowskis. He created storyboards for The Matrix so he based the Mengo Brothers on the Wachowskis.

While they aren't major characters in the Marvel Universe it is cool to have a part of its history in my collection.
I was lucky enough to get the first appearance page from issue #3 too.

Classic face off shot! Definitely makes you want to open up the book to see what happens on the inside! I'm a big fan of Skroce's work from the time - love seeing it here on CAF. Congrats on a sweet cover example!

Gambit seems confident despite the close proximity of the two guns. Congrats.

Pretty awesome gun standoff image for a cover. For the time period, it was just the right tone to bring that edginess to the Ragin Cagun with trenchcoats and guns.

I LOVED Skroce's art on Gambit as well.

(but I don't think I ever made the connection between the bros and the directors).
