I always admired Mr Ross' ability to render such beautiful detail on so small a support. I think he once said that he uses Strathmore 500 4 ply. That support is certainly absorbent, but rigid enough not to warp given his gouache and watercolor staining techniques. But 11 x 16 is still very small given his level of detail and clarity.
Just another testimony to the skill level of this greatest of all watercolor painters !
