Description

From the Finlay estate, this beautiful study for one of the illustrations in the short novel "The Far Place" by Willis A. Boughton, published by Kaleidograph Press in 1949. Until I acquired this prelim, I had never even heard of this book, but the five illustrations by Finlay are just marvelous. You can see some of them in the additional image.

On the backing board, written in Finlay's beautiful hand is the following:

Finlay's levels of pencil darkness makes every character count from those approaching to the reactions in the foreground comes across to tell a story.
