DescriptionOne of the most amazing STAR WARS comics to exist - issue #38 -it is the only STAR WARS issue drawn by MICHAEL GOLDEN!The story goes that issue 38 was supposed to be the beginning of the new "EMPIRE STRIKE BACK" storyline, but it was pushed back a month and this "filler" by Golden was used instead. In fact, the last page of issue #37 clearly states: "Next: The most eagerly awaited saga of them all begins! Marvel's adaptation of...Empire Strikes Back!". But readers were instead greeted with this great stand alone story by Golden and Archie Goodwin titled "Riders in the Void!". At the time of it's publication fans were miffed that this issue was NOT Empire! How time changes attitudes... This page is the very last page in the story, and at the bottom, you can see "Next: The Empire Strikes Back!", setting up the start of that story line beginning in #39. This was one of Golden's most sought eras in 1980 doing covers for ROM, Doctor Strange, Micronauts and Battlestar Galactica - all published in the same month! What makes this page even more rare and special is the inker, TERRY AUSTIN! The venerable inker did an amazing job with Golden the same time he and John Byrne were "the team" during their glorious Uncanny X-Men run! Social/Sharing |

An absolute doozy of a grail page, congrats! The Golden-Austin art in this fill in issue with its Heavy Metal vibe is a standout in the original Marvel series.

Great team on this one! Love end pages - especially when they have the preview for a classic story.

Excellent example from a truly one-of-a-kind story. Love those Austin inks. And well bought!

This issue stood out in every price guide (even Star Wars price guides) and put the comic on everyone's want list just based on the special kind of work Golden was putting out at that time period. It did not let us down. Tremendously illustrated as it really had a futuristic feel worthy of the Star Wars brand. It made us wonder why they all couldn't have been like this issue.

Probably the best drawn issue of the initial SW run. Congrats.
