DescriptionI love Alan Moore's ABC Comics! This tale of the First American, or FA for short, (FA means "fuckall" in British English, comparable to "jack shit" in American English) is an allegory for the US invasion of Iraq post 9-11. This is a great page for lots of reasons, including the great Baikie crowd, the shots of FA and US Angel, the appearance of Cane Toad Man, and the thinly disguised Coalition of the Willing in the bottom panel. The Science-Imbecile Community is, from right to left: Captain Uzbekistan, Le Premier Francais, Deutchlander Zahlein, and The Fightin' Limey. I love adding a page from an ABC book to my collection. Thanks, Robert!Social/Sharing |

My only issue with the ABC line was that we didn't get more of it. Congrats on the super cool pickup.

I couldn't agree more, Michael! Those books were so well-done! Thanks for the kind words :)

It's a great page with Alan Moore being topical and Baikie delivering the clever storytelling and pretty pictures together.

I'm sorry to say that I don't know anything about Baikie's work, but this is a compelling reason to go searching for some! He's obviously an incredibly skilled cartoonist with a style that can capture an urban grittiness and then next panel potentially slide into a caricature or something... Really like his art style, like a Kevin O'Neill meets Dave Gibbons meets... Jack Davis? Another super add, Doc - I really like this! Congrats!

I like how you describe Jim's art, Jason! You can check out all the adventures of The First American and US Angel in ABC Books' excellent Tomorrow Stories!
