Description10 x 15Oh you thought we were done with Love and Rockets in this gallery? Not by a long shot. Next month will be 40 years since the release of Love and Rockets #1 published by Fantagraphics. This early page is made special by being a flashback page from "The Return of Ray D" story. Maggie is having a difficult time with Hopey MIA so she gets hammered hanging out with Danita. We get a touching flashback to a very young Maggie and Hopey in their maximum cuteness, especially Maggie, showing her crush on Ray from afar. We find out later in the story what Hopey was writing in the wet concrete as Maggie finds herself stumbling and right where the flashback took place. Another touching moment. Love every single panel on this page, from Maggie's look, to Hopey's sarcastic retort, to the sudden knock back to present day. Jaime nails Maggie blacking in and out with that final panel. All in all just a very meaningful page in not just it's execution but it's connection to the past and future of Jaime's Locas epic. Social/Sharing |

Glad to hear it. I don't know of anyone who's regretted it. Only regretted not doing it sooner!

Great, thanks Jason! I know you posted this just to age me, right? My god, where did the last 40 years go? Can't believe I was collecting when these books were coming out new. Sigh! Anyway, gorgeous page. So crisp and clean. Brilliantly effective in its simplicity. But I still hate you for making me feel so damn old.

You're welcome, Eric! I was in preschool in another country! Hard to believe my kids older than I was when this came out. Could there even possibly be a series today that continues until they're my age? I don't think so. What an accomplishment.

Is this Ray's first appearance? Does that make this a...BIRTH PAGE.
Just a marvelously executed page that delivers maximum emotional impact. I could be biased when it comes to Jaime, though.

Wow! It must be valuable! Your take is right on, both objectively and subjectively.

The teen angst on this is presented genuinely and in a clean and tidy Hernandez manner.

Gorgeous. Another slam dunk, Jason! A really fun flashback to the "good old days" of the reminiscing characters, where everything looks clean and well-lit and pretty... making the gut punch of panel 9 (with Maggie mirroring her own posture in panel 8, but under completely different circumstances) that much more intense, dramatic, and heartbreaking. Brilliant storytelling example. Congrats, sir - this is fantastic!

Great page, congratulations! I'll probably be framing a page or two I have from this series to hang up.

I never tire of Jaime's work. He's such a remarkable storyteller. On this page he's firing on all cylinders; the economy of line, each character is fully realized and unique (look at panel 1 with Maggie holding her hands or panel 3 with Maggie walking with her head down or, shoot all the shots of Hopey being, well...Hopey!), every figure in every panel so exquisitely drawn. Thanks for sharing
