See this gallery's main page for the heartwarming story of how this twelve page one-shot "Sound Effects" came to be.

The opening splash page revives the Silver Age strategy in which the first interior page is essentially a second cover rather than the beginning of the story. Page 2 begins the story in earnest. Tony Stark tours a laboratory and meets Dr. Pedro Perez, who has a hearing aid, and teenager Samantha Farrell, who has a cochlear implant. He shows them that he too has "better living through assistive devices" in the form of the power supply embedded in his chest.

I purchased the pencils for page 1 from Karl Moline at Dragon Con 2022 and then the rest of the book from him the next year. Then I found inker Manny Clark online and got the inked pages from him.

This is the result of those house ads showing Marvel was willing to create specialty comics in short runs. Especially popular with mainstream audiences now that Iron Man was a household name. Very clever use of visuals to convey the theme from the hearing institute. It shows collaboration of the Institute, the writer, and Moline to get these ideas of heroes, powers, villains, setting, and more to creat a visually stunning comic that inspires hope and hope to create more comics readers.
